FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Are the productions professionally staged?
Yes. All our plays are professionally produced and staged at The Greenwich Theatre in London. Our Director, Elizabeth Freestone, has worked extensively with the National Theatre, the Royal Shakespeare Company, and the Globe Theatre, as have most of the actors. For full details please take a look at the Greenwich theatre page on our website.

Are the texts used full and unabridged?
The text for Dr Faustus is the full, unabridged, A text. With A School for Scandal there are a few minor edits of lines that could only be understood by an audience in the late 18th Century. The Duchess of Malfi and Volpone have minimal editing. Where possible, in consultation with the Theatre Director, we will always look to produce unabridged texts. The texts of all plays are posted online for viewing.

Are the DVDs filmed during a performance with an audience present?
Yes, as it is our intention to capture, as closely as possible, both the “live” nature of the performance and the feeling of being a member of that audience: All four plays so far were filmed in front of capacity audiences at Greenwich Theatre.

Are the DVDs subtitled?
The main DVD of the play has optional subtitles in English.

Is the Stage on Screen logo in view on the commercial DVDs?
At present we have a selection of clips available to view on our website and on YouTube. The actual DVDs have no logo to view when being shown.

What software is needed for the Interactive CD-ROM included in the Dr Faustus and The School for Scandal Education Packs?
All up to date Macs and PCs have Apple i
movie or Windows Movie Maker installed as standard. However, a number of open source editing software packages are also available online.

What format are the DVDs available in?
When an order is placed, the country selected by the person ordering automatically determines which format we release. For the UK and Europe this would be PAL; for the US, Canada and certain other countries this would be NTSC.

If, however, you would like to order in a format other than your own country standard, (someone in the UK ordering a copy for a friend in America, for instance) please contact us and we will make special arrangements.
